Chapter 4: Jñāna Karm Sanyās Yog
yoga-sannyasta-karmāṇaṁ jñāna-sañchhinna-sanśhayam
ātmavantaṁ na karmāṇi nibadhnanti dhanañjaya||41||

Meaning : When a person has renounced actions by practicing yoga and has removed all doubts through true knowledge, understanding their inner self, they are no longer attached or bound by their deeds. This freedom comes from clear wisdom and self-awareness.

śhraddhāvānllabhate jñānaṁ tat-paraḥ sanyatendriyaḥ
jñānaṁ labdhvā parāṁ śhāntim achireṇādhigachchhati||39||

Meaning : The one who has faith gains true knowledge. When you have sincere faith, you can grasp the truth fully and clearly. Faith is like the shining lamp of yoga — it illuminates your path. Without faith, your spiritual efforts cannot last or succeed.

Meaning : Arjuna, understand the power of knowledge. Just as fire destroys fuel completely, when true knowledge awakens in you, it destroys all binding actions—whether good or bad. You become free. Nothing remains to hold you down, because wisdom turns even past karma into ashes.

api ched asi pāpebhyaḥ sarvebhyaḥ pāpa-kṛit-tamaḥ

Meaning : Arjuna, do not lose heart, even if you think you’ve done great wrong. The power of true knowledge is like a boat—it can carry you across the stormy sea of sins and mistakes. Just as a strong boat crosses a dangerous river, wisdom will help you rise above the past and reach freedom.

yaj jñātvā na punar moham evaṁ yāsyasi pāṇḍava
yena bhūtānyaśheṣheṇa drakṣhyasyātmanyatho mayi||35||

Meaning : Arjuna, when you gain this true knowledge, you will no longer be trapped by illusion. You will see clearly that all beings—no matter how different they appear—are part of your own Self and part of Me. This is unity: to see the One in all, and all in the One. With such vision, your heart will find peace, and your actions will become pure.

tad viddhi praṇipātena paripraśhnena sevayā
upadekṣhyanti te jñānaṁ jñāninas tattva-darśhinaḥ||34||

Meaning : Arjuna, if you want to know the highest truth, don’t try to find it alone. Seek a realized teacher—one who has seen the eternal reality. Approach them with a humble heart, ask your questions honestly, and serve with devotion. In return, they will lovingly reveal the truth that sets you free.

śhreyān dravya-mayād yajñāj jñāna-yajñaḥ parantapa
sarvaṁ karmākhilaṁ pārtha jñāne parisamāpyate||33||

Meaning : Arjuna, while offering physical things in sacrifice has value, offering with understanding and wisdom is far superior. Everything you do—every action—ultimately finds its highest purpose when it leads you to knowledge of the Self, of Me, and of truth. Knowledge is the goal behind all action.
