Chapter 12: Bhakti Yog (12.9)

Chapter 12: Bhakti Yog
atha chittaṁ samādhātuṁ na śhaknoṣhi mayi sthiram
abhyāsa-yogena tato mām ichchhāptuṁ dhanañjaya|| 9||

My Understanding : If you find it difficult to focus your mind on God, start by chanting His name consistently. Surrendering yourself completely doesn’t happen instantly; it requires patience and daily practice. Gradually, with dedication, you will draw closer to Him.

Chapter 12: Bhakti Yog (12.8)

Chapter 12: Bhakti Yog
mayy eva mana ādhatsva mayi buddhiṁ niveśhaya
nivasiṣhyasi mayy eva ata ūrdhvaṁ na sanśhayaḥ|| 8||

My Understanding : Krishna is the ultimate guide who shapes your actions; decisions originate from Him, while their execution is carried out by the human. The individual is merely an instrument in His divine plan. Surrender yourself completely to Krishna, aligning your mind, heart, and soul with Him, for He is the true doer of all.

Chapter 12: Bhakti Yog (12.2-12.7)

Chapter 12: Bhakti Yog
śhrī-bhagavān uvācha
mayy āveśhya mano ye māṁ nitya-yuktā upāsate
śhraddhayā parayopetās te me yuktatamā matāḥ || 2||
ye tv akṣharam anirdeśhyam avyaktaṁ paryupāsate
sarvatra-gam achintyañcha kūṭa-stham achalandhruvam || 3||
sanniyamyendriya-grāmaṁ sarvatra sama-buddhayaḥ
te prāpnuvanti mām eva sarva-bhūta-hite ratāḥ || 4||
kleśho ’dhikataras teṣhām avyaktāsakta-chetasām
avyaktā hi gatir duḥkhaṁ dehavadbhir avāpyate|| 5||
ye tu sarvāṇi karmāṇi mayi sannyasya mat-parāḥ
ananyenaiva yogena māṁ dhyāyanta upāsate|| 6||
teṣhām ahaṁ samuddhartā mṛityu-saṁsāra-sāgarāt
bhavāmi na chirāt pārtha mayy āveśhita-chetasām|| 7||

My Understanding : The heart and mind must be offered to God; the form of worship does not matter as long as it is done with sincerity. Chanting God’s name with devotion is vital. One should see all beings with equality and not abandon daily responsibilities for rituals. Even a single moment of prayer should be heartfelt. A true believer in God sees the divine in every individual and dedicates all their actions to the supreme.

Chapter 12: Bhakti Yog (12.1)

Chapter 12: Bhakti Yog
arjuna uvācha
evaṁ satata-yuktā ye bhaktās tvāṁ paryupāsate
ye chāpy akṣharam avyaktaṁ teṣhāṁ ke yoga-vittamāḥ|| 1||

My Understanding : Bhakti is not just about visiting a temple; it is about seeing God in every being. True devotion is not merely sitting and performing rituals but having sincere dedication towards God. Performing pooja with the intention of fulfilling our desires is one thing, but praying to God with no expectations is entirely different. Bhakti isn’t limited to physical offerings; it is the surrender of the heart and soul to the divine. Real devotion lies in offering your mind and spirit to God.
