Chapter 11: Viśhwarūp Darśhan Yog
śhrī-bhagavān uvācha
su-durdarśham idaṁ rūpaṁ dṛiṣhṭavān asi yan mama
devā apy asya rūpasya nityaṁ darśhana-kāṅkṣhiṇaḥ||52||

nāhaṁ vedair na tapasā na dānena na chejyayā
śhakya evaṁ-vidho draṣhṭuṁ dṛiṣhṭavān asi māṁ yathā||53||

Meaning : Lord Krishna said:

You have now seen this very difficult-to-see form of mine, which even the gods always desire to see. I cannot be perceived like this by studying the Vedas, performing austerities, giving charity, or by sacrifices. But you have been able to see me like this because you are destined, and because I have granted you the vision.

sañjaya uvācha
ity arjunaṁ vāsudevas tathoktvā
svakaṁ rūpaṁ darśhayām āsa bhūyaḥ
āśhvāsayām āsa cha bhītam enaṁ
bhūtvā punaḥ saumya-vapur mahātmā||50||

Meaning : Sanjaya said:
After saying this to Arjuna, Lord Vasudeva (Krishna) showed his own original, gentle form again.He comforted and reassured the frightened Arjuna by appearing in his calm and kind form.

na veda-yajñādhyayanair na dānair
na cha kriyābhir na tapobhir ugraiḥ
evaṁ-rūpaḥ śhakya ahaṁ nṛi-loke
draṣhṭuṁ tvad anyena kuru-pravīra||48||

Meaning : O best of the Kurus (Arjuna), in the human world, no one else besides you can see this form of Mine — not by studying the Vedas, performing sacrifices, giving charity, doing rituals, or even through severe austerities.

śhrī-bhagavān uvācha
mayā prasannena tavārjunedaṁ
rūpaṁ paraṁ darśhitam ātma-yogāt
tejo-mayaṁ viśhvam anantam ādyaṁ
yan me tvad anyena na dṛiṣhṭa-pūrvam||47||

Meaning : O Arjuna, because I am pleased with you, I have shown you this supreme, radiant, infinite, and original universal form of Mine — through My own divine power. No one before you has ever seen this form.

kirīṭinaṁ gadinaṁ chakra-hastam
ichchhāmi tvāṁ draṣhṭum ahaṁ tathaiva
tenaiva rūpeṇa chatur-bhujena
sahasra-bāho bhava viśhva-mūrte||46||

Meaning : O Lord of the universe, you have shown me your infinite, cosmic form. Now I wish to see you as you were before — in your four-armed form, with a crown on your head, holding a mace and a discus in your hands. Please appear again in that form.

adṛiṣhṭa-pūrvaṁ hṛiṣhito ’smi dṛiṣhṭvā
bhayena cha pravyathitaṁ mano me
tad eva me darśhaya deva rūpaṁ
prasīda deveśha jagan-nivāsa||45||

Meaning : I am delighted to have seen this form of Yours, which I had never seen before. But at the same time, my mind is filled with fear. Therefore, O Lord of the gods and support of the universe, please be gracious and show me Your (familiar) form again.
