Chapter 7: Jñāna Vijñāna Yog
daivī hyeṣhā guṇa-mayī mama māyā duratyayā
mām eva ye prapadyante māyām etāṁ taranti te||14||

Meaning : This divine energy of Mine, made up of the three modes of nature (guṇas), is very difficult to overcome. But those who surrender to Me alone can cross over this illusion (māyā).

Chapter 7: Jñāna Vijñāna Yog
tribhir guṇa-mayair bhāvair ebhiḥ sarvam idaṁ jagat
mohitaṁ nābhijānāti māmebhyaḥ param avyayam||13||

Meaning : The entire world is deluded by these three qualities (sattva, rajas, and tamas). Because of this delusion, people do not know Me — the one who is beyond these qualities and unchanging.

Chapter 7: Jñāna Vijñāna Yog
ye chaiva sāttvikā bhāvā rājasās tāmasāśh cha ye
matta eveti tān viddhi na tvahaṁ teṣhu te mayi||12||

Meaning : Know that all states of being — sattvic (pure), rajasic (passionate), and tamasic (ignorant) — arise from Me. But I am not in them; they are in Me.

Chapter 7: Jñāna Vijñāna Yog
balaṁ balavatāṁ chāhaṁ kāma-rāga-vivarjitam
dharmāviruddho bhūteṣhu kāmo ’smi bharatarṣhabha||11||

Meaning : O Arjuna, I am the strength of the strong, free from desire and attachment. I am the righteous desire in all living beings, which is not opposed to dharma (righteousness).

bījaṁ māṁ sarva-bhūtānāṁ viddhi pārtha sanātanam
buddhir buddhimatām asmi tejas tejasvinām aham||10||

Meaning : O Arjuna, know that I am the eternal seed of all living beings. I am the intelligence of the intelligent and the splendor of the powerful.

puṇyo gandhaḥ pṛithivyāṁ cha tejaśh chāsmi vibhāvasau
jīvanaṁ sarva-bhūteṣhu tapaśh chāsmi tapasviṣhu||9||

Meaning : I am the pure fragrance in the earth, the brilliance in the fire, the life-force in all living beings, and the austerity of those who practice penance.

Chapter 7: Jñāna Vijñāna Yog
raso ’ham apsu kaunteya prabhāsmi śhaśhi-sūryayoḥ
praṇavaḥ sarva-vedeṣhu śhabdaḥ khe pauruṣhaṁ nṛiṣhu||8||

Meaning : O son of Kunti, I am the taste in water, the light of the sun and moon, the sacred Om in all the Vedas, the sound in space, and the valor/manhood in men.

Chapter 7: Jñāna Vijñāna Yog
mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat kiñchid asti dhanañjaya
mayi sarvam idaṁ protaṁ sūtre maṇi-gaṇā iva||7||

Meaning : O Dhanañjaya(Arjuna, conqueror of wealth) , there is nothing higher than Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearls are strung on a thread.

Chapter 7: Jñāna Vijñāna Yog
etad-yonīni bhūtāni sarvāṇītyupadhāraya
ahaṁ kṛitsnasya jagataḥ prabhavaḥ pralayas tathā||6||

Meaning : Understand that all beings are born from these two natures (material and spiritual). I am the origin and also the dissolution of the entire universe.

Chapter 7: Jñāna Vijñāna Yog
apareyam itas tvanyāṁ prakṛitiṁ viddhi me parām
jīva-bhūtāṁ mahā-bāho yayedaṁ dhāryate jagat||5||

Meaning : This material nature is inferior. But know that besides it, O Arjuna, there is another, superior nature of Mine — the jīva-bhūta, the living soul — by which this world is sustained.
