paritrāṇāya sādhūnāṁ vināśhāya cha duṣhkṛitām
dharma-sansthāpanārthāya sambhavāmi yuge yuge||8||

Meaning : Krishna said: He incarnates whenever needed in the world to keep the balance of good and evil, ensuring that dharma (moral order) is preserved.
